No, Satanism is not a myth. Though, there are two primary types, Theistic and LaVeyan. LaVeyan Satanism is primarily symbolic Atheism, while Theistic Satanism is the belief in Satan as an actual deity. If you are after an informative site on Theistic Satanism http://www.theisticsatanism.com/ is rather decent.

There is really no easy answer to that. Joy of Satan seems to be one of many groups dedicated to studying the left hand path. Obviously they are using the rhetoric of Anton Szander LaVey's Church of Satan, but the Satanists of that group, and I met a few in the sixties and seventies, were never that interested in the material in the library, being more concerned with ethical issues.
The group's library is very eclectic -- everything from H. P. Lovecraft, who was an atheist, to the Book of Taliesin, a Christian document, through several (feuding) factions of the Golden Dawn to Benjamin Rowe, who was many things but not a Satanist (I think it interesting that his "foundation document", The Book of Seniors, isn't there). If you mean does this group believe in what they are doing the way Christians do -- frankly, I think they believe in it differently and have different understandings of what is agreement and disagreement. As long as there has been an awareness of Satan there have been people who identified with or worshipped him. These understandings have varied over time, and not all the murders attributed to them have been attributed unfairly (which is to say that I do believe that the Mass of St. Secaire actually happened). At the same time, how spiritual these groups are has been as varied as their practices. I wouldn't advocate avoiding this group. I don't know enough about them, but someone you know from their Internet presence probably isn't someone you should just trust in this (though Rowe was a pioneer in using the Internet for this and is another story). There are many groups of Satan Worshippers out there, if that is your question. |

I don't know... if you're talking about people that worship satan (satinists) than yeah there's a fair couple of them but I warn you not to join because they often get possessed by demons (no kidding)

Satan is a myth.
Satanism is a very real practice based on the myth. |

Easy 2 points, no it is real and people still practice even after the death of the church's founder Anton LeVay.
