    The messages in fortune cookies are examples of the "Barnum Effect". Basically this means they are sufficiently vague enough that they could be interpreted in almost any way.

    For example, if you read the phrase "If you continually give, you will continually have." Then you might think about how when you are generous, people seem to be generous back. Notice how it makes no specific predictions; it simply states something which can be interpreted in multiple ways.

    The same principle applies to astrology: if a prediction is vague and multifaceted, it's almost bound to come true.

    I got one that said, "You will win the Miss Universe contest." That would certainly be a big change if it actually happened. I competed in some physique contests...male contests, of course. My lover Bi-Chen was amused by this silly fortune cookie. They are usually like horoscopes in papers and mags, i.e. so general they may apply to anyone.
